Long a meeting place for Eastern and Western ideas and the media capital of Asia, Hong Kong, China hosts the Exploring Consciousness with Art, Technology and Design Exhibitions in conjunction with the Asia Consciousness Festival and the 15th annual Toward a Science of Consciousness conference.
Subjective inner experience has long been approached through introspection, mysticism, and meditative contemplation, and revealed through art, mythology and ritual. In the past half century, science has found computation among neurons to explain brain functions, and promoted the possibility of conscious machines. Now, various media technologies attempt to communicate, simulate and re-create inner experience. In a spirit of synergy, the exhibition explores consciousness along three entwined themes of brain mind and technology.
The Asia Consciousness Festival will host a series of exhibitions throughout Hong Kong during the Festival period. View below for details of venues and opening times and click the gallery logo for full program details.

As part of the programmes participating in Asia Consciousness Festival, Sin Sin Fine Art is delighted to present "The Journey", a group exhibition featuring three artists from the gallery collections to explore the correlations with consciousness through and within the language of art. Art has long been seen as an aesthetic reflection of our inner and outer experiences. Three artists, Sun Guangyi, Thep Thavonsouk and Tisna Sunjaya walk us through their journeys experiencing and discovering their spirituality and consciousness via the canvas. |

Sundaram Tagore Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the sculptor and performance artist Barry Freedland. Playful and witty, Freedland’s work pushes the boundaries of human consciousness. He is fascinated by the myth of the artist-genius alone in his studio creating wonders. In a technology-based performance, Freedland puts himself on display and poses as ‘the artist.’ As he stands exposed and passive, a series of robots begin moving and creating drawings. Who then is the creator in this scenario? Is it Freedland? Or the robot-workers? |
